These days there are many people without a job. Perhaps a person's job was outsourced. Perhaps a person was forced to retire. The economy is slow but there are signs that it is picking up. If you have a neighbor, family member or friend that needs help, you can do that.
You can throw a grilling benefit for your loved one in need. You can choose to have the grilling benefit in your yard if you have enough room or you can have the grilling benefit at the local park.
If you choose to have the local park as your setting, the children can play on all of the equipment. You will have a set up entertainment center just for them. Most parks have shelters with picnic tables under them. You can set your food up there. Grills are at parks but you may want to bring your own grill and borrow a few other grills for the crowd.
Ahead of time you ask local businesses and friends/family members to donate to the cause. Let the businesses know that you will have a poster at the benefit with their names on it for free advertising. You can get restaurant gift certificates, bars with a food area, the hardware store, gas stations to donate a gas gift card, coffee shop gift certificates, Laundromat services, car garages to donate an oil change or other type of service, etc. Most businesses and friends/family members are happy to help someone in need. Your family members/friends may work at a large corporation that can donate money or something to the cause. You may know a few people that are very creative and can donate jewelry, clothing or some other type of artistic item. You can sell tickets beforehand and at the grilling benefit for the person and/or family in need for the door prizes.
At the grilling benefit you can sell hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken and anything else you want to grill. You may separate a fancier area with tablecloths and serve steaks. Potatoes are an easy food to grill. You could serve the potato with the chicken and steaks. You may choose to have a build your own potato in a separate area. Toppings for the potatoes can include broccoli, chili, melted cheese, shredded cheese, guacamole, sour cream and bacon bits.
You will need an area to serve beverages. Serve a variety of beverages such as soda, juice and bottled water. If you can get a beer license you can offer beer as well.
If you know of a band that can donate their time to play at your grilling benefit that is a wonderful idea as well. If not, you can use a good stereo system. You could have karaoke offered as well.
Make your grilling benefit fun and earn money for a person and/or family in need until they can find another job and get back on their feet.
